What is Changemakers?

Changemakers is a one-of-a-kind program crafted specifically for passionate Muslim individuals eager to harness their influence for meaningful social impact through creative social media strategies. From February 25 to March 4, 2025, in Shah Alam/Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you’ll gain invaluable skills such as digital advocacy, storytelling and strategic communication. You’ll learn how to be an impactful leader and team player, while growing your resilience, creativity, and cultural awareness. With hands-on experience and expert mentorship, this immersive program will leave you with a deeper understanding of driving social change and lasting personal growth.

Program Overview

The group will depart on the 24th Feb and return on the 4th Mar (The dates are tentative and will be confirmed closer to the time of travel.

The deadline for applications has been extended as they are to be submitted before 23:59 H Tuesday, 10 Dec 2024

Part 1 – Your Application Video Applicants must record a 2-minute video introducing themselves and addressing a number of questions. For details on what to include and how to upload your video, please refer to the question ‘What should the video cover?’ below

Part 2 – Your Online Application An online application form must be completed along with the required documentation. The application form cannot be saved to continue later, so if you need to return to the form, we suggest that you create an offline copy of your answers in case you are interrupted whilst completing your application. You will receive a confirmation email when you submit your application form. If you do not receive this email, please check your spam folder. If not there, please get in contact with us as you may have provided an incorrect email address.

• Be Muslim (revert or born Muslim), aged 19-30 years.

• Speak English fluently.

• Reside abroad (outside Malaysia).

• Be enrolled in or have graduated from a university degree course.

• Have a history of involvement in volunteer community service.

• Demonstrate intention and passion for da’wah (Islamic work) and business.

• Be fit, healthy, and non-smoking, with no serious medical conditions that limit travel.

• Be willing to undergo a National Police Check.

• Have a minimum of 2,500 followers on social media, with a preference for Instagram and TikTok and have passion to grow on social media.

Successful applicants are expected, upon acceptance of offer, to:

• Pay a USD 500 non-refundable administration fee

• Purchase comprehensive travel insurance for the trip

• Agree to raise USD 7500 over 12 months through any of MyFundAction’s fundraising projects

• Pay for all required visas, incidentals and personal needs

Both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be informed of the selection results via email. Please ensure that ‘nooraini.bohari@myfundaction.org’ is added to your email provider’s “Safe Sender” list so that your email does not end up in your spam folder. Successful applicants will be invited for an interview via online meeting. Once selected, the selected applicants will receive an offer, which they must formally accept and pay an administration fee of $500. Applications that do not include a two-minute application video nor proof of payment of your application fee will not be considered. Below are some guidelines to help you create an effective and engaging self-introduction video:

 

Video Requirements

1. Duration Please keep the video between 2 to 3 minutes.

2. Format

  • Video Orientation: Landscape (horizontal)
  • Resolution: Ensure the video is clear and of good quality (HD or at least 720p).
  • File Type: MP4, AVI, or MOV.

3. Video Quality

  • Ensure you are in a well-lit area, so we can clearly see your face.
  • Record in a quiet space to avoid background noise.

4. Clothing

  • Dress comfortably but professionally. What you wear should reflect your personal style and the professional nature of this opportunity. 

 

Suggested Structure for the Video

1. Introduction (30 seconds):

  • Start by introducing yourself:
  • Name
  • Location
  • Current role/position or area of work.
  • Your Changemaker Journey (1 minute):

2. Share your background and how you became involved in creating change.

  • Highlight any experiences, challenges, or motivations that led you to take action in your community or field.
  • Talk about any specific initiatives or projects you’ve worked on.

3. Impact and Achievements (1 minute):

  • Discuss the impact you’ve made or are making.
  • Share any significant outcomes, achievements, or milestones you’ve reached through your work.
  • Feel free to mention any recognition or success stories.

4. Future Goals and Aspirations (30 seconds):

  • Briefly share your future goals as a changemaker.
  • Explain how you plan to continue creating positive change and what you hope to achieve in the next 1-2 years.

 

Additional Tips

  • Be authentic and passionate about the work you do. This is your chance to showcase your dedication and vision.
  • Speak clearly and at a comfortable pace, and avoid reading from a script. It’s okay to have key points, but try to speak naturally.
  • Smile and show enthusiasm – we want to hear about the positive change you’re creating!
